Is.43,18-19.21-22.24c-25 Ps.40 2 Co.1,18-22 Mk.2,1-12

7th Sunday of ordinary Time, year ’B’

“Your sins are forgiven ’said Jesus. when Jesus returned to Capernaum, some time later word went round that he was in the house ; and so many people collected around it that there was no room left, even in front of the door. He was preaching the Word to them.”

The gospel of Mark says that Jesus has come bcak to Caphaareum. People come bringing a paraysed man they set befor him. The move some branches away that cover the roof for it is impossible to reach Jesus: there are too many people. They manage to drop down at Jesus’ feet the paralysed man using ropes. Perhaps these four men were the first four Apostles! They were witnesses of Jesus’ action that healed and did peopel good as he brought their friend to Jesus. Thus they bore witness to their faith and went off with an even greater faith.

"Some people came bringing him a paralytic carried by four men, but as they could not get the man to him through the crowd, they stripped the roof over the place where Jesus was; and when they had made an opening, they lowered the stretcher on which the paralytic lay. Seing their faith, Jesus said to the paralytic, ’My child, your sins are forgiven.’

’Your sins are forgiven’ are the words that Jesus says to this man. This is the most important, inner liberation, but it provokes some inner turbulence! “Some scribes said to themselves : Why is this man speaking as he is? Who can forgive sins apart from God Himself? He is blaspheming.” Inwardly aware of what they were thinking, Jesus said to them ’Why do you have these thoughts in your hearts? Which of these is easier, to say to the paralytic, ’Your sins are forgiven’ or to say ’Get up, pick up your stretcher and walk’? ’ And the man got up, and at once picked up his stretcher and walked out in front of everyone.“Jesus acts in the same way to today amongst us, he heals and sets free.” Which of these is easier, to say to the paralytic, ’Your sins are forgiven ’ or to say ’Get up, pick up your stretcher and walk.’ ? But to prove to you that the Son of Man has authority to forgive sins on earth- he said tot he paralytic- ’I order you : get up, pick up your stretcher ,a nd go off home.’ And

the man got up,and at once picked up his stretcher and walked out in front of everyone, so that they were astonished and praised God saying, ’We have never seen anything like this."

God’s Word had already announced this : Do no t remember former times, the past! I am making a new world, it is already germinating, can’t you see it? The Christian community can continue this marvellous work of liberation. We are all in need of deliverance. We know that we can bring our brothers to Jesus for them to be delivered by the sacrements. Jesus can still free us and give a life back to us, a life that singsof God’s glory, our life is to become a life of Love.

We ask Jesus for the grace to be healed so as to bring our friends in difficulty to Him so that He may heal them.
