Friday 31st week Vendredi 31e semaine

“The children of this world are more astute in dealing with their own kind than are the children of light.”

Ph.3,17-4 1 Ps.121 Lk.16,1-8

Friday 31st week even numbered year “Jesus said to his disciples’ There was a rich man and he had a steward who was denounced to him for being wasteful with his property. He called for the man and said’ What is this I hear about you? Draw me up an account of your stewardship because you are not to be my steward any more.”

The manager is in a difficult position, but manages to turn the situation around by assuring himself of the trust his debtors have in him.

The way Jesus evaluates the situation is rich in teaching for us. Jesus invites us to be situated in our existence by making friends for us who will help us in what is essential for our life.

When things change and the balance of our life is modified, we come back to the finality in relativizing our means. Jesus knows the pride of the one who earns his life by the work of his hands. Money must serve to earn us friends. We are invited to position ourselves in the relationship with our brothers concerning the near future. We are walking towards the Kingdom, moved by the Holy spirit, ensuring our daily life, finding people to receive us if necessary, giving us to eat.

“Then the steward said to himself’ Now that my master is taking the steward-ship form me, what am I to do? Dig? I am not strong enough. Go begging? I should be too ashamed. Ah, I know what I shall d to make sure that when I am dismissed from office there will be some to welcome me to heir homes..

Then he called to him his master’s debtors one by one. To the first he said ’How much do you owe my Master?’

’One hundred measures of oil’, they answered. The steward said’ here, take your bond and write eighty.”

Jesus is always before the trust of ’the poor’ in Israel crying out totheir God. He underlines that our honesty in things of the earth allow God to place his trust in us for the things of the Kingdom for we become little by little associated to Jesus in the work of the Redemption.

This is the ’true good’ that of God’s inheritance and co heritages of Chrsit.

In Jesus’ eyes, the money of iniquity is that which is earned dishonestly. It is also that o whoever becomes a blind power of injustice and of oppression which reduces into slavery the one who possesses it Jesus insists upon the fact that we can serve at the same time God and Mammon, God and immediate security.

Notre trust in God and our ardour to serve in daily life, has our hearts be established firmly wherever there are true joys.

The Master praised the dishonest steward for his astuteness. For the children of this world are more astute in dealing with their own kind than are the children of light.“And so I tell you tis : ’use money, tainted as it is, to win you friends, and thus make sure that when it fails you, they will welcome you into eternal dwellings.”

We cannot serve two masters, God and the relationship which is the foundation of our existence, and money is just a means, but can become an idol, promising that it can only deceive.

Jesus says that w here our treasure is there is also our heart. Money is a means which is of service to us when we walk towards our finality. We are given to Jesus who is totally given to us. The overflowing mercy of God’s Love is at our disposal for the world! We want to make a profit of the treasure of Jesus’ Cross, of Christ. The saints chose this best part, they struggled for more justice and place in the world. The Eucharist we celebrate is our treasure, Jesus’ very life given to us. This Body and Blood of Jesus which we receive daily transforms our life. And we are waiting for the Lord Christ Jesus who transforms our poor bodies into the image of his glorious Body.

We ask God for the grace of his Infinite Love in order to go through the obstacles in our lives.
