Is. 49, 1-6 Ps. 70 Jn. 13, 21-33, 36-38

Tuesday of Holy Week 22nd March 2016

“Having said this, Jesus was deeply disturbed and declared ’ In all truth, I tell you, one of you is going to betray me.”

Is.49,1-6 Ps.70 Jn.13,21-33.36-38

“The disciples looked at one another wondering whom he meant. The disciple Jesus loved was reclining next to Jesus ; Simo Peter signed to him and said ’Ask who it is he means.’ So leaning back close to Jesus’ chest he asked ’Who is it Lord?’ Jesus answered ’It is the one to whom I give the piece of bread I dip into the dish.’ And when he had dipped the piece of bread he gave it to Simon Iscariot.”At that instant, after Judas had taken the bread Satan entered him. Jesus then said ’What you are going to do, do it quickly.“Today’s liturgy places an accent upon the drama that is being prepared and which will end up with the Cross on Good Friday.”As soon as Judas had taken the piece of bread he went out.It was night."

The time of betrayal : arrogance, when we don’t feel in need of God’s Love.

We can understand how on that evening Jesus was ’deeply disturbed in himself.’

Two of Jesus’ friends : one will betray him, the other will deny him.

One will be remorseful, the other will kill himself.

The one who will repent will become the first head of the Universal Church.

The same Love of Jesus can lead to two different choices, one ending in death, the other in life.

If I choose to act according to my own plans, rather than according to God’s will, I am choosing to detach myself from his Love, and from what is best for me.

We need to be humble to see oneself like this : ’Amen, amen, I tell you, one of you will betray me.“It is a hard time for Jesus who has to overcome sin, hatred, violence. ’Father, take this chalice far from me? But no, I came for this. Father , may your will be done.”

“None of the others at table understood why he had said this. Since Judas had charge of a common fund some of them thought Jesus was telling him, ’Buy what we need for the festival.’ or telling him to give something to the poor. As soon as Jesus and taken the piece of bread, he went out. It was night. When he had gone, Jesus said’ Now has the Son of man been glorified, and in Him God has been glorified.”

But sin doesn’t have the last word, it is God’s Mercy that supposes a ’turning around’ from us. A turn over of the situation which consists in detaching ourselves from creatures and attaching ourselves to God, thus finding genuine liberty.

Let us decide how to do this Holy week is a good time to begin again on this path.

On the Cross, Jesus stretches out his arms to every single human being. No one is excluded, the Son of man is glorified, this is why He came!

Jesus has a word of friendship for Judas ’Do what you have to do!’

Today we think of the kiss of Judas : the one I shall kiss is sign of an apprehended death, a kiss that it is time to put an end to a Love.

We wish to remain in Jesus’ great desire, to dwell in Love whatever may come about.

Jesus who remains in the womb of His Father leads us into this mystery of Love. It is in fact around Jesus in His Eucharist that we are gathered. We live this Holy Week with Mary. In her Compassion we want to let ourselves be touched by Jesus’ sorrows. With Mary we remain in Love which goes beyond love.We remain in Love come from God, which goes beyond human love.

“Little children I shall be with you a little longer. You will look for me, and as I told the Jews, where I am going, you cannot come.’ Simon Peter said ’Lord, where are you going?’ Jesus replied”Now you cannot follow me where I am going; but later you shall follow me. Peter said ’Why can I not follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.’ ’Lay down your life for me? answered Jesus. In all truth I tell you, before the cock crows, you will have denied me three times."

We observe how much Jesus was troubled by Judas’ behaviour. He is his friend, one of the Twelve. One of the disciples who was with him every day, enjoying his intimacy. But Jesus didn’t want to make him into a good disciple

despite himself. We see the Goodness of Jesus. Jesus was delivered into their hands because this is why He came, to save us. The Word of God came down to become a little child in Mary’s heart. He grew, telling about the incredible Love of the Father : He is not received. Jesus is in danger, his love is in danger. Mary who received him has been touched by Him. Jesus is going to lead Mary then after her the whole of humanity. We are already brought into the Resurrection of Jesus. Humanity enters into the mystery of God.

We ask for the grace to be faithful and to live the today of Jesus.

TUESDAY of HOLY WEEK; year ’B’

“The disciples looked at each other, wondering whom he meant. The disciple Jesus loved was reclining next to Jesus; Simon Peter signed to him and said, ’Ask who it is he means.’ So leaning back close to Jesus’ chest he asked, ’Who is it, Lord?’ Jesus answered, ’It is the one to whom I give the piece of bread that I dip in the dish.’And when he had dipped the piece of bread he gave it to Judas son of Simon Isacriot. At that instant, after he had taken the bread, Satan entered him. Jesus then said, ’What you are going to do, do quickly.’”

Two friends of Jesus who will betray him.Deny him. Yes, one of them will go through a state of remorse, and take his life, the other will repent and become the first Shepherd of the Church. They have a same love for Jesus, but there will be two different choices, ending either in death or life. Every time I choose to live according to my own plans and not to God’s Will, I am choosing to detach myself from His Love and from what is best for me. How hard it is to be humble in these circumstances. “In all truth I tell you, one of you is going to betray me.” It is a hard moment for Jesus who has to conquer sin, hatred, violence. “Father take this calice far from me? But no, this is why I came. Father, may your Will be done.’ It is also a hard moment for the community of apostles : Is it I? John places his head on the heart of Jesus and hears this confidence,”The one to whom I give the bread.“Judas receives the bread, but he refuses Love : Satan enters into him.”Deliver me from a fatal path“says the Psalm! I could be capable of betrayal.” None of the others at table knew why he said this. Since Judas had charge of the common fund, some of them thought Jesus was telling him, ’Buy what we need for the festival, ’or telling him to give something to the poor.’ As soon as Judas had taken the piece of bread, he went out. It was night. When he had gone, Jesus said, ’ Now has the Son of man been glorified, and in him God has been glorified.“Saint Augustin said : ’ When the Lord, Bread of Life, gave this piece of bread to this dead man, thus showing who it would be that would betray the living bread,he said to him” What you have to do, do it quickly." He did not order the crime, he showed Judas the evil in him, and he announced our good. The

fact that Jsus was delivered, was it not what was the worst for Judas, and what was best for us? So Judas, harming himself, was acting for us without knowing it.“The Son of Man was gloriified, and he came for this! Jesus has a friendly word for Judas,”What you have to do, do it quickly!“Our wish is to dwell in the desire Jeus has, dwelling in love whatever happens. Otherwise we are in danger. Jesus dwelling in the bosom of the Father draws us into this mystery of Love.”The poor you will always have with me, but you will not always have me with you.“The poor need God’s help. Around Jesus in the Eucharist we come together. We live this Holy Week with Mary, our Compassionate Mother, wanting to be touched by what she lived, our Mother of Sorrows. With Mary we dwell in tthis Love that is beyond all love;”Hail, our King, obediant to the Father as a lamb led to the abbatoir, you let yourself be lead towards the Cross.“”Little children, I shall be with you only a little longer. You will look for me and as I told the Jews, where I am going you cannot come. Simon Peter said ’Lord, where are you going?’ Jesus replied, ’Now you cannot follow me where I am going, but later you shall follow me.’ Peter said to him, ’Why can I not follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.’ ’ Lay down your life for me?’ answered Jesus. ’In all truth I tell you, before the cock crows you will have disowned me three times.’ “Saint Augustin says again, ’ As soon as Judas takes the piece of bread, he goes out and it is dark. And the one who went out was also dark. And so once the dark had gone out, Jesus said,’Now the Son of Man is glorified! ’ and so daylight transmits to dayight the word(Ps.18,3), that is, Christ commends himself to his disciples so that they listen to him and follow him in Love…once this world has ended, this world conquered by Jesus, something similar will occur. The weeds will no longer be mixed with the seeds the just will shine like the sun in the Father’s Kingdom.” The Word made flesh came down to become a little child in the heart of Mary. He grew up, communicated this unbelievable Love of the Father; He was not received, but Mary welcomed Him and was touched by Him. Jesus is in danger! His Love is in danger. Jesus will take Mary to follow Him and humanity also. He was touched in the deepest parts of his being. We are getting ready to live Maunday Thursday and Good Friday. We are already taken up in Good Friday, humanity enters into God’s Mystery.

We ask for the grace to remain faithful and to live the present day of Jesus.
