Feast of Saint Mary Magdalen 22nd July 2016

« Jesus said ’Mary ! ’she turned around and then said to him in Hebrew ’Rabbouni !’_which means Master. »

Ct.3,1-4a Ps.62 Jn.20,1.11-18

"It was very early on the first day of the week and still dark, when Mary of Magdala came to the tomb.

Mary stood standing outside near the tomb, weeping. Then as she wept, she stooped to look inside and saw two angels in white sitting where the body of Jesus had been, one at the head and one at the feet.

They said ’Woman why are you weeping ?’

’They have taken away my lord, she said and I don’t know where they have put him.’

The day after the huge ordeal of the Cross, Mary Magdalen keeps on looking for Jesus. We are here before the experience of the Death and Resurrection of Jesus. Mary Magdalen is saddened, she is weeping. Getting to the tomb, her sadness turns into a nightmare for Jesus’ body is no longer there. She becomes even more sorrowful for she doesn’t know where she is , it is still dark, the stolen has been rolled away and the tomb is empty.

Mary Magdalen leans inside and sees two angels, but they are not Jesus !

Mary Magdalen is the model of perseverance in our spiritual life. He rpath has us contemplate the search for the Living God.

She had attempted to fulfil her heart in so many ways and had mistaken the path to happiness. On meeting Jesus, he reveals what true Love is. This is what her heart was seeking, and she had never yet founded it.

« As she said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, though she did not realise it was Jesus.

Jesus said to her ’Woman, why are you weeping ? Who are you looking for ?’

Supposing him to be the gardener she said ’Sir, if it is you who have taken him away, tell me where you have laid him and I will go to remove him.’

Jesus said ’Mary !’ She turned around and said to him ’Rabbouni !’ Which in Hebrew means Master. »

Jesus himself comes to her, she doesn’t recognise him, taking him for the gardener, but Jesus names her ’Mary !’

Then her heart leaps, she recognises the tone of love in his voice and at this moment joy, happiness, peace flow into her heart again. She is filled with immense Joy and Love and is full of light ’I have seen the Lord, this is what he told me..’

With her eyes and ears of faith, Mary Magdalen got attached to the Lord with her whole being.

Jesus went through the Cross, she went through it with him, He became her life and her life was crucified.

After Mary , Jesus’ mother, she becomes the model of those who are eeking God.

’Take me, we shall run..’ says the Song of Solomon.

God desires to be the whole of our life. Little by little all mediations have to fade away so that we are before the Living God.

« Jesus replied ’Do not cling to me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father…

But go to the brothers and tell them ’I am ascending to my Father and to your Father, to my God and to your God.’

So Mary Magdalen told the disciples ’I have seen the Lord’ and that he had said these things to her. »

And so the ardour in Mary Magdalen’s heart is awoken and it is much stronger than on the first day.

After having spent stormy nights and having gone through all sorts of ordeals, Jesus is realistic, he doesn’t leave us alone to combat the evil one,te world and our own selfishness.

Mary Magdalen is awoken in her immense love for Jesus.

She has found the One her heart loves. She won’t ever let go of him. H ehas become more intimate to herself than she is intimate to herself. He joins the origins of her life, the very origins of her happiness. She has become its messenger.

The mystery of our humanity that Jesus wed. This humanity woven Mary’s womb, which took place in the very bosom of the Blessed Trinity where God’s Word took on every human flesh.

Jesu leads our humanity towards the Father. We are walking forward. Today we ask to persevere.

In a very mysterious way, Jesus is God, woven in Mary’s womb. He is ’God from God, Light from Light’ Creature of Heaven and earth, and He is our God, the God of Love, the God who save sus.

We ask for the grace to walk towards God, to enter into the mystery of Jesus’ resurrection.

Saint Mary Magdalen 22nd July

« Jesus aid to her ’Mary !’

She turned around to him a nd said ’Rabbouni !’ Which means ’Master’ in Jewish language.

Ct.3,1-4a Ps.62 Jn.20,1.1-11

On the first day of the week, Mary Magdalen went to the tomb, early, whilst it was still dark. She saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb.

Mary Magdalen stood outside, weeping in front of the tomb. She leant inside, full of tears, and noticed, two angels, dressed in white, there where Jesus’ Body had been lain, one at the top and one at the bottom.

They said to her ’Woman, why are you weeping ?’

She answered them : ’They have taken away my lord and Master and I don’t know where they have put him. »

On the following day of the great trial of the Cross, Mary Magdalen is still looking for Jesus.

We are here before her experience of Jesus’ death and Resurrection. Saddened, and in tears, she reaches the tomb, her sadness turns into a nightmare for Jesus’ body is no longer there. Her pain is accentuated by the fact that she doesn’t know where Jesus’ Body is. It is still dark and the stone has been taken away and the tomb is empty. Mary Magdalen leans inside the tomb and sees two angels !

Mary Magdalen is the model of perseverance in our spiritual life. In the way she walks through this these events she has us contemplate the Living God.

She had tried to fill her heart in all sorts of ways and was mistaken by the ways she took. When she meets Jesus, He reveals to her what real Love is. This is exactly what her heart was looking for, before meeting Jesus she hadn’t yet found it.

« Saying this, she turned around and saw Jesus there, although she didn’t know it was him.

Jesus asked her ’Woman, why are you weeping ? Who are you seeking ?

Taking him for the gardener she said to him ’If it’s you wo took him away, tell me where he is and I’ll go and fetch Him !’

So Jesus said to her : ’Mary !’

She turned around an said to him ’Rabounni !’ Which means Master in the Jewish language. »

Jesus himself comes to her, she doesn’t recognise him and Jesus calls her by her name : ’Mary !’

At this moment joy, happiness, peace flow into her heart and body.

She wants to take hold of him. She has only to keep her inner joy, a huge inner joy which fills her heart with Light : ’I saw the Lord, and this is what he told me !’

Her heart can jump wit joy with the eyes and ears of faith.

Mary Magdalen had been attached to Jesus with her whole being.

Jesus had gone through he Cross, she went through it with him. He had become her life and her life had been crucified.

After Mary, Jesus’ mother, she becomes the model of all those who are searching for God.

’Take me, we shall run’ says the Song of Solomons. God wants us to be the whole of our life.

Little by little, all mediation’s need to fade away so that we are there alone befor ethe Living God.

« Jesus said to her ’Stop holding onto me for I haven’t yet gone up to my Father. But go and find my brothers and tell them ’I am ascending to my Father and to your Father, to my God and to your God.’

So Mary of Magdala told the disciples ’I have seen the Lord’ and that he had said these things to her. »

And so the ardour in Mary’s heart is awoken, more than it had been on the first day.

After having gone through stormy nights, though all kinds of trials, her love is awoken.

Jesus is realist, he doesn’t leave us by ourselves to battle with Evil, the world and our own selfishness.

Mary Magdalen is awoken in her immense Love. She found the One her heart loves. She won’t ever let him go, he became more intimate to herself than her own self. He joins the origin of her life, the very origin of her happiness. She has become his messenger. This is the mystery of our humanity betrothed to Jesus, the humanity he betrothed.

This humanity weaved in Mary’s womb has taken its place in the womb of the Blessed Trinity where The Word of God has taken on all human flesh. Jesus takes our humanity to the Father.

We who are on our journey ask for perseverance today.

In a mysterious manner, in the humanity woven in Mary’s womb, Jesus is God, He is ’God from God’, Light from Light’

Creature of Heaven and earth and He is our God, the God of Love, the God who saves us.

We ask for the grace to journey towards God, to enter into Jesus’ Resurrection.

Saint Mary Magdalen - 22nd July, Saints Feast Days of July

"It was very early on the first day of the week and still dark, when Mary of Magdala came to the tomb. She saw that the stone had been moved away from the tomb and came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved.Mary was standing outside near the tomb, weeping. Then as she wept, she stooped to look inside, and saw two angels in white sitting where the body of Jesus had been, one at the head and the other at the feet. They said to her, ’Woman, why are you weeping ? ’ ’They have taken away my Lord, she said, and I don’t know where they have put him.’

What pervading darkness still all around, and what misfortune for Mary Magdalen to discover that the stone had been taken away and that the tomb where Jesus had been lain is empty. She leans forward to peer in and sees two angels.

It is the day after that great trial of the Cross. Mary Magdalen is still looking for Jesus. We can take her as a model for our spiritual life : "I sought the one whom my heart loves all night ! Have you seen the one whom my heart loves ?’

We are created in the image and likeness of God. We can only be truly satisfied once we find Him, the Living God ! Mary of Magdala, helps us to contemplate what it is to see God, the Living God. She never stops looking for Jesus. She had tried to satisfy her heart with all kinds of different things, mistaking the path that leads to true fulfilment. Her encounters with Jesus had revealed to her what true Love is about. This is what her heart was looking for, and before meeting Jesus she hadn’t yet found it. Saint Paul will say how he was crucified with Christ and the world who crucified his Lord is crucified as far as he is concerned for him.

"As she said this, she turned round and saw Jesus standing there, though she did not realise that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her ’Woman, why are you weeping ? Who are you looking for ?’ Supposing him to be the gardener she said, ’Sir, if you

have taken him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will go and remove him.’ Jesus said, ’Mary !’ She turned round then and said to him in Hebrew ’Rabbuni !’ which means ’Master.« Mary Magdalen had attached herself to Jesus with her whole being. Jesus had gone through pain and death on the Cross and she had gone through it with Him.We could almost say that Mary of Magdala had ’died’ with Him. He had become her life and her life had been crucified. Saint Francis of Sales will say : ’As soon as he called her by her name, her whole being completely melted with pleasure. She said, ’My God, my Master !’ In order to magnify this sovereign beloved, the soul is always’ going to seek his face’, that is, is always going to be ardently and carefully attentive towards Him, seeking to notice every form of beauty and perfection in Him, then to also make continuous progress in this gentle seeking of motives that can hasten it on to perpetually please Him more and more in this incomprehensible beauty that she loves. »

Jesus said to her ’Do not cling to me, because I have not yet ascended to my Father and to your Father, to my God and to your God.’ So Mary of Magdala told the disciples ’I have seen the Lord’ and that he had said these things to her.« And so there is an even greater ardour awoken in Mary of Magdala’s heart, even stronger than on the first day. After having gone through all sorts of ’storms’ and trials, she is awoken, awoken in her immense love. She has found the One whom her heart loves and will never let him go. He has become more intimate to herself than she herself is to herself. He joins the origin of her life, the origin of her very happiness. She has become his messenger of this : ’Go and tell my brothers :’I am ascending to my father and your Father, to my God and to your God.’ This is the mystery of our humanity which God betrothed unto Himself. This humanity woven in the Virgin Mary’s womb, which took place in the very womb of the Blessed Trinity where the Word of God took on all human flesh. We are on a journey. Today we ask for perseverance. He says : ’To my God and your God.’ Mysteriously, in the humanity woven in Mary’s womb, Jesus is God, the ’God from God, Light from Light, true God made from true God » Creator of Heaven and Earth ; and He is our God, the God of Love, the God who saves.

We ask then for the grace to journey towards God, and to enter into the Mystery of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
