Thursday of 11th week Jeudi de la 11e semaine

“But when you pray, go to your private room, shut yourself in and so pray to your Father who is in that secret place, and your Father who sees all that is done in secret will reward you.”

Si 48,1-14 Ps.96 Mt.6,7-15

Thursday of 11th Week, even numbered year

“In your prayers, do not babble as the gentiles do, for they think that by using many words they will make themselves be heard.Do not belike them ; your Father knows what you need before you ask.”

At the start of life, a tiny little child who is born, and this little child is in each one of us, there is a confidence. This confidence is much deeper than all those places of war within us that next come to dwell in the earth of our being.

Jesus re enforces this confidence by crucifying in us, by his Passion, all that is opposed to Love.

He introduces us into a new filiation with our Father and into a new fraternity between us.

On the Cross Jesus will pray : ’Father, forgive them, they know not what they do."

He is completely placed back into he Father’s hands. In Him, each one of us is re established in the filiation with our Father. The Gift of God is there for us.

In us God will now do a work of reconciliation. Jesus demands from us an infinite Confidence as we turn towards our Heavenly Father.

The ’Our Father’ he teaches us is going to become the prayer of Christians, it is the recapitulation of all prayers, of all the requests we could ask of God.

Throughout time we get ready to say in all truth the prayer of the Our Father. Each one of us recites it bearing in mind our own history. We pray it in our on way. The Word of God works in us each day and our Heavenly Father sees to all our needs.

“So you should pray like this : Our Father in heaven, may your name be holy, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.”

We turn constantly towards the Passion of Christ as we hear about all the inflictions people do to another.

The words ’Forgives us our trespasses’ have us rush us into Christ’s Heart, so as to draw from it what we need to continue our prayer.

We don’t feel we have the courage to forgive those who have made us suffer so much, but with Jesus, with God’s help, it is possible.

The forgiveness God us is complete, it goes as far as forgetting. We forget very quickly the favours people have done for us, but we easily collect offences.

If couples could forget the offences of others, how many family dramas could be avoided or resolved.

When we pray this Gospel, we declare that God I our Father who watches over each one of us.

How many worries to be overcome, how many sorrows, how much work to get there finally with a gaze that is pure and limpid, towards our Father. He really does love every one of his children.

“Give us this day our daily bead and forgive us our debts as we forgive those who are in debt to us. And do not put us to the test but save us from the Evil One.

If you forgive others their failings, your Heavenly father will indeed forgive you yours ; but if you do not forgive others, your Father will not forgive your failings either.”

How many men, women and children lack what is essential for them to live on!

Jesus proposes we come to help one another, he gives us big and hard ideal. For the forgiveness of sins he fixes a reasonable measure : our own. For, if you forgive men their faults, your Heavenly father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their faults, nor will your Heavenly Father forgive your own.

We want God and others to forgive us, but for us, forgiveness costs us a great deal. It is hard to ask for forgiveness ; but to forgive costs even more. If we were truly humble, it would not be so difficult, but prise makes things hard and painful.

We know that the greater our humility will be the greater the facility to forgive will be ; the greater the pride, harder will it be to forgive.
