Ac.10,25-16-35,44-48 Ps.97 1 Jn 4, 7-10 Jn. 15, 9-17

SUNDAY of 6th WEEK of EASTER, year’B’

"As the Father loved me I too have love you. Remain in my Love. And if you are faithful to my commandments you will remain in my Love as I have faithfully kept the commandments of my father and remain in his Love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that you may be filled with joy.’

It is of love that Jesus speaks to his disciples in his farewell speech, at the same time that around him Judas and those who pay him have become agitated. For the disciples and those who left everything to follow him, only one thing matters: friendship with Jesus. He is the Only One who has words of Eternal Life. It is through love that Jesus has them serve others, as He was at the service of His Father :’If you are faithful to my commandments you will remain in my Love. ’This is how we enter into the Covenant of Jesus with His Father, it is in this Covenant that we receive life.In his humility, we imitate Jesus, who washed his disciples exist in spite of our limits and frontiers. It means to keep going back to the Church, for Jesus’ Love doesn’t ’t have us rest, there are no limits to Love.Benedict 16, in his encyclical ’God is Love,’ says that human desire has to be transformed by the Love of God (see encyclical on ’eros ’ and ’agapé’) . This Love will provoke struggles, not only from within but also from the outside.

’It is not you who has chosen me, it is I who have choses you and established you so that you may leave, bear fruit, and so that your fruit remains. So everything that you ask the Father in my name he will give it to you. What I ask is that you love one another.’

God is the One whose hand is always open and who is always opening it; this is how Christ’s joy finds an echo in us in our life, whether it be full of joy or of pain ! We contemplate how Jesus lowers himself to enter into this Love and this lowering of himself will reach down as far as hell : ’My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? ’Jesus will pray. Mary will be there for her child Jesus. She will

be an icon of the Father’s Tenderness and his fidelity towards the Beloved Son. ’You are my child, my beloved, in whom I have placed all my love.’ This Word has us dwell in His love. Peter said to Jesus : ’To whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.’ We see the place in our lives that a real love holds. In the Love of Jesus we can bear all sorts of trials. This is why John who received Mary insists ’’Remain in my Love’ Remain in love so as to get out of the violence of the world. To remain in Love is to receive the Holy Spirit who is Love.

We ask Jesus to give us the Holy Spirit and the grace to understand just how much we are loved
